LGBTQIA+ Town Hall | Preparing for 2025
The Commonwealth Club of California World Affairs recently held an LGBTQIA+ Community Town Hall entitled "Preparing for 2025," in which El/La Para TransLatinas' Executive Director, Nicole Santamaria, moderated the Immigration Panel.
The national results of the recent general election caused a wave of shock through many progressive organizations in the country and here in the Bay Area. This live town hall gathered speakers from leading LGBTQIA+ organizations, including SF AIDS Foundation, LYRIC, NCLR, SF Pride, El/La Para TransLatinas, SF HRC, EQCA, SF Office Transgender Initiative and more to discuss the election results, its impact on various LGBTQ communities, and plans to respond. El/La Para TransLatinas & Trans Advocacy Abroad
Nicole Santamaría, Executive Director of El/La Para TransLatinas, recently met with Pope Francis as part of a diverse group of transgender, intersex, and ally Catholics, to discuss the Church’s approach to LGBTQIA+ issues. Following recent Vatican statements on transgender care, the group from New Ways Ministry called for a shift toward greater understanding and compassion from Church leaders, and to listen more attentively to the lives and faith of LGBTQIA+ people.
El/La Para TransLatinas has long championed the rights of trans, intersex, and gender-diverse Latinx people, and we are dedicated to seeing that our community is given the dignity, rights, and respect that we deserve.
